If the GR were to be more difficult than it is, it loses the impact it had. You're explicitly supposed to play it once or twice, as part of the meta narrative. ![]() This game isn't made to be replayed over and over again, it has little replay value beyond a few playthroughs because the game remembers what you do. By doing everything as well as you can, you get a happy good ending, whereas doing everything wrong and killing everything gives you logically what you would want: The destruction of everything. The Pacifist Route is built to make you want to do it, and the GR is built to make you not want to do it. The entire game is a deconstruction of the player's tendency to try for everything. During the GR, you are quite literally a murderous and evil creature, not even considered a human by the monsters. Monsters are stated to be incapable of sustaining injury from sufficiently aggressive or violent humans because they are made of magic. ![]() In the Genocide Route, LOVE, or LV, is explicitly Level Of ViolencE. And there are different worlds of the named games: For example Ocarina of Time or Super Smash Bros Melee have complete different concepts, ideas, plots (if they have) and gameplays so that you can't compare Undertale with these games.īut okay enough from me, I wrote to much (but cool that you read everything) But what do you think about this game? The hard mode he put in is just unnecessary.Īnd after playing the neutral, pacifist and genocide route my enthusiasm of this game was over quickly.Īnd the last question going in my mind is: Should this game really be the best of all time? Even better than Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night, Super Mario World, Super Smash Bros Melee, Mass Effect 3, etc.? I'm not here to push Undertale down or make it bad, I like this game because of the idea and concept, but this game has also some parts like in every game that can be better (see my critique-part). In my opinion Toby Fox could have let this hard mode out because the path of Genocide itself IS the hard mode of the game. The hard mode (if you name yourself Frisk) was also disappointed when after the fight of Toriel the message came "End of the hard mode". Even Flowey who transformed into Omega Flowey in a neutral route, was scared to beat Chara/Frisk that much, that his old ego Asriel appears and begs for his life? I think that doesn't fit really. They don't need to be as difficult as the fights of Undyne or Sans but a bit challenging. But anyone are killed immediately by one hit (Papyrus, Mettaton, Dummy, Muffet, Asgore) which is just disappointed in my opinion. If that would happen only one time (in this case Toriel because of the surprising attack) that would be no problem. In my opinion some enemies you fought in a neutral or you befriended are wasted in the genocide-route, one hit and they are dead. It is ok that you have to go around and slaughter the monsters until "nobody comes", that isn't the problem. The path of genocide could be much much better I think. Even the concept, story and gameplay are very good I was disappointed in some cases. I like such games very much where you have more options and choices. And it is great that you have several endings of the game depending on which choice you choose or who you kill/spare in the game. Sometimes I have to laugh (for example Papyrus and Sans) sometimes I feel sorry for some characters (for example Asriel and what happened to the monsters in the underground). Papyrus reflects the classical guy of games making puzzles or traps for the hero but failing every time. The most characters of the game are funny but also good stage-managed. Furthermore the music of the game is really cool (I like for example Bonetrousle, Another Medium, Battle Against A True Hero or Megalovania). The concept of this RPG is just brilliant and I never thought before that every Hero in RPGs essentially are mass murderer because of killing for experiences and reaching the next level. After playing I had to admit that the game is damned good and a different kind of game. Later I said "Okay, give this game a try.". I think a lot of people played the game Undertale.įirst of all I was skeptic about the game because a lot of people hyped this game. Warning! This topic contains spoilers of the game itself.Ĭouldn't find a topic for discussing this game, so I created one.
